On March 12th, I had the opportunity to visit Mara Seaweed along with fellow MSPs, Finlay Carson and John Scott. Recognised as the UK’s most innovative seaweed brand, the team of experts on seaweed health benefits and flavour have plans to introduce seaweed as a Scottish superfood, available in supermarkets across the country. They aim to pioneer developments in harvesting, sourcing and processing seaweed.
During my visit, I was impressed by Mara’s focus on sustainability and nutrition. We sampled their award-winning products – including some seaweed flavoured butter, perfect on oatcakes - and learned about the innovation for seaweed in the Scottish food industry.
It was great to see such a unique example of Scottish produce and to hear about the growth of their business. I am always happy to celebrate Scotland’s ability to innovate and utilize our natural resources.
