30/01 This Week in Parliament

On Monday we welcomed Transport Minister Humza Yousaf to Aberdeen for a public meeting regarding the AWPR. It was a well-attended event with many questions put to Humza from local residents on the many complications facing the project.

SSE Pylons Debate

As you may know, National Grid has just published a new Networks Options Assessment (NOA) report which recommended that the project should not proceed. This is a great victory for the area, but NOA recommendations are updated each year so the project could still pose a threat.
 

Update on Aboyne Clydesdale Bank Branch

I was sorry to hear the news last month that Clydesdale had decided to close their Aboyne branch as of May 2017. Following the statement, I emailed Clydesdale asking for information they were giving to customers on using the post office, bank etc.

On Monday I met with the Western Aberdeenshire Pylon Action group, who gave a presentation on the SSE pylons.

On Tuesday I attended a meeting of the Environment, Climate Change, and Land Reform committee where I participated in a discussion on deer management issues. Links to my questions can be found here and here.

On Monday I met with Jo Robinson, the Visit Scotland Regional Director for Aberdeenshire, to discuss growing tourism in the region.

Torness Nuclear Power Station

Today I had the pleasure of being invited to visit Torness Power station with Maurice Golden MSP.

On arrival we were briefed by Plant Manager Robert Gunn on the works going on at Torness before being given a tour around the plant.

On Tuesday I attended a meeting of the Environment, Climate Change, and Land Reform Committee, and supported a motion of condolence regarding the sudden passing of MSP Alex Johnstone.
