On Monday, I held street surgeries in Kirkton of Skene and Garlogie. I thoroughly enjoyed being out in the local community and meeting with my constituents to discuss local issues. There was a considerable amount of complaints about speeding in Garlogie which I am eager to look into and I will be sure to keep all constituents informed and included in any actions taken.
On Tuesday afternoon, I attended the Global Sustainability Trust (GST) Launch, which aims to tap investments that will help deliver on the UN’s sustainable development goals (SDGs). Following this, I attended ‘The Future of Solar in Scotland’. This events highlighted the need to support the innovating research and advances in renewable energy and continue to promote a sustainable and energy efficient Scottish future. In the evening, I attended ‘Coaching: The Next Generation’, I spoke with a number of their ambassadors about their ambitions and they were very passionate about promoting an increase in sporting opportunities for young people in the community.
On Wednesday, I attended the Cross Party Group (CPG) on Autism. This meeting concentrated on employment and employability challenges that people with ASD face on a daily basis. Topics of discussion included better connections with specialist, autistic-led peer support groups during the job search and interview stages, improvement on communication between autistic employees and their employers and colleagues, personalised approach to understanding the individual needs of an employee with ASD, and mental health support to help keep employees with autism in employment. A special thanks to our amazing speakers who were inspiring and informative, it is encouraging to sit on a committee where people are as passionate about raising the profile and awareness of autism as I am.
