I haven't recently raised questions in the Scottish Parliament regarding the nursery closures in Aberdeenshire that were announced just before the Easter break for Glass, Durris and Ballogie nurseries.
I have received many emails from constituents from these communities who are extremely concerned that these fantastic and successful nurseries are at risk, despite being at capacity. I very much share these concerns, and I have met with all 3 communities in my constituency regarding the future of these nurseries.
Closing rural education settings without adequate replacements will create a situation where families are going to add thousands of miles to their yearly journeys. It will be more of a burden on families who cannot afford this change, and it will more than likely influence the local economy, the environment, and quality of life as people drop hours or leave jobs and spend more time in their cars.
